Why ?

This website started has a knee-jerk reaction against the suffocating invasion of so-called "artificial intelligence" (AI) in our societies, particularly as generative AI (GenAI) and Large Language Models (LLM). We see it as an existential threat and urge governements, organizations and individuals to withdraw from its development and use.

• LLMs have been trained on copyrighted material, which raises the question of the legality of this process, and besides that the ethics of doing so.
• LLMs training and inference uses substantial of electricity. In some countries, such extra electricity requirements are essentially satisfied by using fossil fuels, contributing to climate change by extra emissions of greenhous gases. In other countries, even the use of carbon-neutral or renewable sources of electricity represents a conflict of use with the de-carbonation of other sides of the economy.
• LLMs represents a threat to the learning process of persons, in particular to children and young adults
• LLMs are mostly controlled by hyperscaler hyper-capitalistic companies, representing a risk of a holigarchic control of those technologies
• LLMs participate to a seamingly never-ending trend of our societies to go "faster", whereas we should strive for doing better. Going faster often translates to a faster rate of consumption of natural resources whose amount is finite.
• LLMs are destroying jobs, or turning some workers into meat proxies.
• LLMs are destroying the Internet, as we used to now it. Nowadays "prove you are human" challenges are everywhere to limit the effects of webscrappers. More than half of the traffic on the Internet is now caused by bots
• LLMs contribute to isolate people and destroy only communities, by limiting their direct interaction.
